(DRESDEN, DE) - District Museum Dresden presents Vestigia: Minute Memento Mori, a solo exhibition by Amanda Quiroz. This is her first international solo exhibition coinciding with her recent installation in the Peephole Gallery at Alter Space and follows on her residency in the gallery’s Jail Cell project space, located in San Francisco, CA.

Quiroz continues her visual study of insects as static organisms operating as subtle icons calling to mind the miraculous through the mundane. Through drawing, Quiroz participates in a lineage of fascination with natural history and traditional image making. Quiroz’s examinations of the insects in her personal collection incorporate imagery observed from experimental microscopes, such as the “foldscope”, a portable paper microscope created by PrakashLab at Stanford University.

With delicate exactitude and keen sensitivity, Quiroz proposes “an invitation to an overlooked realm of accumulated shadows and dust” in which she “offers quiet reminders of mortality to draw on a parallel human experience of longing — magnifying cosmic fragility to finite vulnerability, while hovering between the scientific and the sacred.”
